How to Switch Your DNS Provider to Google’s Servers


Google's Public DNS servers (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) offer a reliable, fast, and secure browsing experience. Follow the steps below to change your DNS provider on Mac and Windows:


On Mac


  1. Open System Settings:

  • Click the Apple menu () at the top-left corner of your screen.

  • Select System Settings (or System Preferences for older macOS versions).
  1. Access Network Settings:

  • Click Network in the sidebar.

  • Select your active network connection (e.g., Wi-Fi or Ethernet).
  1. Edit DNS Settings:

  • Click Details (or Advanced for older versions).

  • Navigate to the DNS tab.
  1. Add Google’s DNS Servers:

  • Remove existing DNS entries (if any) by selecting them and clicking the - button.

  • Add Google's DNS servers:

  • 8.8.8.8

  • 8.8.4.4
  1. Save Changes:

  • Click OK to confirm and then click Apply.


On Windows


  1. Open Network Settings:

  • Press Win + I to open Settings.

  • Go to Network & Internet > Status > Change adapter options.
  1. Access Adapter Properties:

  • Right-click on your active network connection and select Properties.
  1. Locate IP Settings:

  • Double-click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).
  1. Update DNS Servers:

  • Select Use the following DNS server addresses.

  • Enter the following:

  • Preferred DNS server: 8.8.8.8

  • Alternate DNS server: 8.8.4.4
  1. Save and Close:

  • Click OK to save changes.

  • Repeat the steps for Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) if you want to add IPv6 DNS (Google’s IPv6 DNS addresses are 2001:4860:4860::8888 and 2001:4860:4860::8844).


By following these instructions, you’ll successfully switch to Google’s DNS servers on both Mac and Windows
